Not sure where to put this thread....but hey,I'm from Philly and we are sort of bold...so here it goes....

Anyone out there in cyberspace with a ken for Jack The Ripper & The Victorian Period ....I'm here to shoot the breeze.....

"From Hell" is an amazing book.

But H. H. Holmes kicks Jack's ass.

I adore Victorian architecture with all its gaudy embellishments. It was the neo post Renaissance, Mannerist revival or as some call it, Rococo, with its gold gilding, and extreme ornamentation. Dark earthy tones of ox-blood, and burnt sienna dominated, added to its melancholy mood. It had the hint of gothic, which gave its dark sombre mood, the perfect hunting ground for Jack the Ripper, which contributed to his immortality.

I cannot see the allurement of his legend in a sterile Modernist environment.

Jack to Ripper is absolutely alluring and anybody who would go out of his way to deny his haunting magic, I would question their denial.

However, I seem to consistently forget that angels and saints overrun this Forum.

On another sight, we labelled them Born Again Virgins.

I confess, I am human and more than judgemental.

It was replaced by Silence of the Lambs, but welcome to the Celler How Brown. :)

I think JTR is pretty interesting. Who do you think he was, How Brown? Didn't Patricia Cornwell write a book about him? She seemed to think she knew who he was. That artist guy, right?

I did a Jack the Ripper walk when I lived in London. Somehow walking the streets made it more eerie. He's been so commercialised (? not quite the right word, but I think you'll know what I mean) that it brought it home that I was in a real place and he had been a real murderer.

Possibly, the artist Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper.

If you've been all dressed up for discussion on Jack the Ripper but have no place to go, give his site a try. It is amazing what rumors and misconceptions there are concerning this legendary figure. The site itself contains a large forum of URL's that link to other ripper sites as well (there are dozens and dozens), one of which is the Mother of All Ripper Sites, this being the Casebook.

Of course, Ripperologists just can't get enough in any venue, so we welcome the formation of a ripper discussion group on this site, provided that others may be sufficiently interested. Have a look at some of those other sites, however, so you'll know what you're in for. ;)

This could be some cool shit indeed. I had a passing interest in Jack, but the inability to resolve the question of his identity, or more particularly why he stopped killing, was too much frustration for me.

He was captured by the Vorlons.

My husband mentions the Whitechapel murders (JTR) in his book. It's pretty interesting stuff.

Book? What book? Give it up. ;)

It's a book on criminal profiling.
