In DC, it rained on the 4th, but it stopped well before the fireworks. The expectation of mud/more rain kept the crowds low, which was pretty cool, especially since the grass was only slightly damp, and it didn't rain. The fireworks were awesome. They seemed bigger than before, and there weren't any of the technically impressive but gimicky smily faces.
One downside of the low turnout was that in the mad rush to the subway, there weren't enough people in the crowd to shut down the roads for very far. It's usually sort of fun to parade down the downtown roads, ignoring the honks of the impatient drivers.
