JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN--I forget who wrote it. Ditto the above.
LITTLE WOMEN--Louisa May Alcott. My mother read this to me when I was small and it was pure magic.
RUNAWAY BUNNY--forget who. A metaphor for the soul.
CANDIDE-Voltaire. Hilarious good fun.
