sortof a sigh of relief

I have been posting on every possible "missing" or "safe" list I could find to try and locate our friend who works for the NOPD.

We just heard from his wife tonight that he is indeed alive, but they have had limited contact with him. Evidently the NOPD put him on the job to ride around with, and protect the city's (?) electrical trucks that are trying to assess the damage.

The big fear is that they will be shot at or attacked, so they have to carry shotguns and wear flak gear.

You want to know the funny thing? As he was saying goodbye to his wife & kids (they were heading north to her parent's house), the oldest daughter (11-12 years old I think) reminded her dad that some payphones are grounded - ala "the day after tomorrow". Sure as shit.... he tried quite a few and they didn't work, and then he went into the Hilton lobby, and those phones were grounded and he was able to call out.

I couldn't even imagine being in their place.
