One thing is that it has its own trajectory which can vary enormously. Some folks can be stable for years and other can degenerate rapidly.

Your man Jason seems particularly insightful and wise beyond his years. I think it is awesome that he essentially told the doctors and experts to go pound salt and started himself on his spiritual path. Having read Yogananda's books, I'd not be surprised a lick if Jason lived to be 90.
