Fourth row center at the State Theatre in Ithaca last night. The crowd was pretty small but very appreciative for Douglas. He did a meet and greet after, but we had to head home on the greasey roads. JD did his familiar tunes and the new one he was grammy nominated for. He brought in a really talented group of musicians, which is necessary if you're going to do the stuff he and Mark O'Conner (extrordinary fiddler) wrote. There was no singing just dobro, fiddle, guitar, stand up base, and drums. The guitar and fiddler players really shone. This much straight dobro music is an aquired taste but his work with Allison Krause and dozens of others is accessible to everybody.
Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem put on a short eclectic roots show as the warmup act. She has a wonderful voice and a talented band as well. Fiddle, stand up bass, guitar, and "found" drum kit. Apparently they did a well-received children's show earlier in the day.
