The one thing I've learned from having been shit on a lot is to know where to draw the line. There's nothing wrong with being a genuinely nice person, but you can't let yourself be gullible.
Of course, the line is constantly shifting. You'll fuck it up sometimes, but after a bit of trial-and-error, you'll get it.
Furthermore, you have to pick and choose your battles. Sometimes, it's better for everyone involved if you let it go. But other times, it's a lot of fun to do battle.
Sorry...maybe that sounds a bit generic...but I like to keep things like that as simple as possible.
