I'm pierced also but have never been "caught".
Those who know me well can guess how I would have handled that situation.
That said, I know some people who could join a freak show, they have so much metal in their skin. They tell ne that they remove certain piercings and replace them with a plastic "sleeper" to avoid embarrassment at airports.
