Hey guys,
I was in Paris last weekend with my girlfriend. We went up the Eiffel tower. Anyone who hasn't done this ( I realise I have an advantage, being in England) wont appreciate how dizzyingly high it feels up there. Mainly because you are not inside a building, but suspended on a swaying platform in the open air that is supported by an intricate network of very narrow steel girders. As we gazed out and down onto the Parisian streets below, my girlfriend ( who was getting quite vertiginous ) commented on the fact that it helped her understand a little more how truly awful it would have been in the WTC tragedy for those at the top of the building ( its difficult concept for ANYONE to fully grasp, but more so if you live in a country that doesnt have high buildings - we have no point of comparison in the UK, so the concept of being in such a tall building is beyond our comprehension completely)
I told that as far as I could remember ( I went up the WTC back in 1980 ) the WTC was about 6 times the height of the Eiffel Tower. She finds this VERY hard to accept. I have tried to find comparisons to either show her, or to correct myself, but I am unable to do so. My question therefore is;
Does anybody know how high the WTC towers were?
Or does anybody have any suggestions for
www.sites to consult?
Its not for purposes of gloating to my partner and looking smart that I wish to know. Its for the purposes of having a microscopically better perspective on what it must have felt like to be there. It was a haunting concept to contemplate on the E.Tower.
Thanks
MM
