The SMS idea has been in the pipeline for almost four years. It was delayed because various levels of govt. were arguing about who would have to pay for it.
It looks like four years of sodding about gets trumped by a bloody disaster. IMHO, text messages would not have helped much in the big fires, maybe a few people might have been warned earlier than otherwise.
I was wondering what the messages would say: "UR goin 2 die. GTFU NOW!"
