Maybe you're confusing it with annualcreditreport.com -- indeed, that is free; just choose one company for a report every 4 months then repeat annually.

Freecreditreport.com makes you subscribe to their service; $14.95/month, automatically charged unless you call to cancel. And if they're anything like the one I fell for several years ago, good luck getting through.

But I guess it's not really a scam, technically; they're up front about it and do provide this "credit monitoring" service for that fee. It's just that it hits me the wrong way, them advertising something that's "free" and when you go to the site, it turns out that to get a FREE report, they refer you to the other site I mentioned. They don't offer anything actually free.
