I am currently "bidding" on low-cost properties I am elegible to rent via the amalgamation of charities/ housing schemes. I am bottom of the list as I am assessed as D "no recognised housing need" (in case anyone thinks I am feeding off the govt tit).
Still, I apply to the 3 properties I am entitled to every fortnight, just in case.
Last Thurs, I applied to a flat on Weedon Hill.
Didn't ring a bell.
Looked up the street name on multimap and it was in the old part of town. Wow! I mean, I know I'm not going to get anything anytime soon, but it's nice to dream. So on one of my interminable walks I looked in the area multimap suggested. Not there. Funny.
Then Mum said there was no way it was in town. There was no room for a new development. I must have got thre name wrong. It must be on the new estate out by Watermead.
Sometimes she is wrong of course.
But she worked for the ambulance service for over 10 years, and the police for more than that - she knows Aylesbury as well as an estate agent.
Yup - she was right.
The Royal Mail postcode finder put the address on the new estate about 2 miles away. Don't get me wrong, I'd have bitten their arm off it it had been offered to me (I wasn't even top 20) but it taught me not to automatically trust websites.
