I think he's just doing his version of cold calling, an exercise I don't like and do poorly (witness my fruitless jobsearch--sales--HA!). His tone, style, whatever didn't gibe with you and that's fine. There is some section of the population that will respond well to such an approach. I'm not in that section, you're clearly not in that section. I think his abuse of the language is inexcusable.
