You can get sued for what you have done already. (Especially if that shit on a plate on his hood is true.) A person can be sued for anything. Winning is another matter entirely. But a lawsuit can be a huge hassle, even if the other party has no chance of winning.
If you stay off his property, and don't litter on his property, you should be fine. He could easily set up a game camera, or similar, and if you mess with him, he would have a slam dunk case. If he is aggressive about it, he could claim you are harassing him and get a restraining order keeping you a certain distance away from him. It would be bad for you if your house fell inside that distance.
Best to put it behind you and move on. No reason to loan him your tools though. You don't have to be friendly.
