7/26/2003: Pollinated bumblebee

Last week's MSNBC Week in Pics had this beaut of a bumblebee, hoving over a pumpkin flower and getting dusty with pollen. This is such a great macro shot! Remarkable!

You know, when you think about it (and you shouldn't too much, really), isn't pollen basically flower jizz?

At the musuem I worked at a couple years ago, we held an exhibit on the wildlife photography of one Dr. McKeever. He had some fantastic shots, particularly of insects, and a bunch of shots of different flies. I asked him during the reception on how he would get the flies in the shot with such detail. His reply?

"Endless patience."
