Acetaminophen recall news

Mrs. Dallas went to get a refund for a bottle of acetaminophen (aka generic Tylenol) that had been recalled due to possibly having metal bits in it. She was a bit taken aback when then clerk had no idea there had been any problem. And we were talking a bit about how it didn't seem to have been publicized much. So I was wondering, did you hear about it?

No idea. I just Googled it...

"Acetaminophen is best known as the drug in products sold under the Tylenol brand, but is widely available in generic versions. The recall does not affect Tylenol...

However, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., CVS Corp., Walgreen Co. and Costco Wholesale Corp. are among the companies it [Perrigo] supplies with health care products, according to company Securities and Exchange Commission filings
."

This was on the local TV news but they also interviewed a doctor that said it wouldn't hurt you, just pass through.

Saw it on the TV news also, and I rarely get to watch the news these days. I don't ever take Tylenol, brand or generic, so it's not an issue for me.

It's safer and smarter for the company to eat the cost of the recall rather to deal with the inevitable product liability lawsuits if they hadn't. Remember the recall math from Fight Club? It's not just about cars.

The doc is pretty much right, though, about metal filings just passing through one's system without damage. I think I've mentioned before I had a patient that ate razor blades ... old style safety razor blades, no less ... and the standard of care for that is to just let them take their little adventure through the digestive system.

I'd heard. I am a believer in vitamin I(buprophen), the camping vitamin, so it concerned me less.

I read about it on www.msnbc.com

I don't ever take tylenol so it isn't an issue for me. Now if they had a recall for ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen sodium (Aleve), I would be in deep doo-doo. I take that stuff all the time for my tension headaches. Neither Aspirin nor tylenol ever touch my pain.
