Let It Snow x 5
Let it snow, let it snow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....! Snowing in Chelsea RFN. Can see it on the TV (football match) That's approx 50 miles away - it's coming! Sadly for us, it might get held up in the Chiltern Hills, which protect Aylesbury Vale, but the amounts forecasted mean we have to get something! Heavy snow due over the next two days. Mum and I are so excited - we're walking round the house singing Let It Snow and really annoying Dad. Then again, he kept singing It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas all December, until he got it into our heads too. My camera is on charge, so I will be able to return with lots of pictures for you. What? I haven't seen a proper snowfall since childhood! |

Since Global Warming has turned out to be Microclimate Cooling, you might get your wish more often.

Yay! Snow!
Of course it's worse in London than here. It never snows in London, and if it does, it's over and done with in a couple of hours. I move away, what happens? Snow fest! Never mind - we had some here and are promised more. Some pics for you. Our rather busy patio - there are more feeders on the bushes behind me, which the birds have been very grateful for, and I went out to give them water this morning. Diz is really not sure about what all this is. |

In the Alfred Rose Park - only one tobogganist, sadly. I assume it's because we haven't seen snow in 10 years so most parents wouldn't even think of buying one.

Do you guys even have snow shovels in Britain? I saw that BigV was using a coal shovel in Seattle.

I've got a grain shovel, which is kind of a cross between a snow shovel and a coal shovel. And two snow shovels. |

We have three snow shovels in the garage. By the front door we keep another shovel, year round, to make a path to the other shovels.

I'd laugh at your joke, but I have a feeling you are serious.

No, they don't have snow shovels. They have no idea that there are special shovels for snow If I ever go back, I'm taking one as a souvenir. I now have about 6, although I gave a couple to my new neighbors when the first snow came down this season.

..we keep a shovel in each car, one on the deck and the rest in the garage. I ain't joking either. I will often stop on the road and shovel my way to the garage if it's snowed while I'm out. garage is attached, so no need to shovel the way over there from inside the house.

After my wife and I got married, and we were living in an apartment, we didn't own a snow shovel. We lived in an apartment after all. Parked on the street. Why would we need a snow shovel?
We got about 3 feet of snow in a freak storm, and had to resort to a cookie sheet and broiler pan to dig out car out. Would have bought a shovel after that, but they were sold out. |

I've been living where it doesn't snow so much after most of my life in the colder climes. So when it does snow, the locals are utterly unprepared for it and generally shut down the area. They can't drive or walk in it either. But the driving problems are exacerbated by the design of the roads, all concrete with no asphalt, lots of overpasses/bridges which freeze up and little to fight off the worst such as snow plows and salt trucks for the roads. The drivers are too inexperienced to handle driving in bad conditions and that makes it so much worse.
The most recent was an ice storm that was gone by noon. But since the road right in front of my place is 3 lanes each way, I got to watch the folks find out the hard way they can't adjust for the conditions. I have no idea how they'd handle a minnesota winter but it'd be fun to watch if you're morbid. |
