Trying to find some old cartoons/artwork.

This is an admission of failure that is years long.
I am pretty good at internet searches, so this is pissing me off.
What I think I remember;
A series of cartoons (or elaborate drawings, actually) in Playboy Magazine probably 30 or 40 years ago.
I think they were by Shel Silverstein and had theme of applying sayings to people and cars.
They were detailed drawings illustrating such things as "Driving off in a Huff," the Huff being a vehicle.
Another might have been "Storming away in a Purple Haze." Or perhaps a "Towering Rage."
Or "Leaving in a Snit."
You get the idea.
There were a dozen or more and may have spread over several issues.
The whole thing was imaginative and delightful and I saved the issue for years.
Now I can't find them anywhere, but cannot believe I have the wrong publication or artist.

Any and all ideas gratefully accepted.

I was trying fpr years to remember the name of a short story that I had only the sketchiest details about. I did know the name of the magazine it was published in but not the year or month.

I wrote the the NY Public Library research department on a Friday and on Monday I had the answer from them with a pdf of the story.

Librarians fucking rule.

I don't know if these are the same cartoons you're talking about; but, they have similar titles like:

Name: LEFT IN A HUFF.jpg
Views: 990
Size: 24.0 KB

These aren't coming from Playboy, they're from a contemporary author's website. Perhaps you can track them from there (contact the author even) to find their origins.

That is sure the idea, but not the artist.
Enlarging them shows some nice, subtle details.
Email to him on the way.
Thanks

I think that one came out in Mad -- often as the Horrifying Clichés Department.

Exploding a Myth, etc.

Yes, in Playboy, they were very clever. Possibly Silverstein, but not certain.

Maybe they were syndicated by an artist who was freelancing at the time.
