thanks. I realized that for the flag after I voted for it. It's fair play of course, little to no rules here, but in my scheme of things, cropping is the only cool post-production process in this game, so that's the reason I didn't vote for yours here. Nice pic, though, and nicely done.

for a distance shot with a point and click camera, most pictures come out like snap shots. Histogram equalize literally is a one step process in paint shop pro 12. color depth is one aspect of a good photo. composition and subject matter are others. it's a shame you 'disqualify' a picture for being enhanced (color changes)and are ok with cropping (composition changes). then again, I don't really care if I 'win' ...so you go ahead and vote for the ones you think are 'fair'.

OK you lost me way back there, jinx. Mama bear, much?

I just crop is all.

Each to their own -I'm not saying it's wrong to do more, but when I can tell, it puts me off in this context. Same as using fluffy animals -also not against the rules and doesn't require any technical know-how.

I loved Jim's pic, except for that the color didn't seem right, and I was just asking to see if I had it right. I'm really lousy at photography and all that painshop stuff. And at spotting it.

You win you rock, you're an awesome photographer with amazing post-production skills. You protest too much.

No, no, I'm just saying what I do... putting it out there, that's all.

oh OK. Well, for the record, I always love your pics, but I don't vote for them if they look overly "edited" and I knew you did stuff to them, but Jim's tend to be more "au naturel" looking in the main -hence the question.

I guess I like my stuff raw

ok, so I read your post as jinx's post and I'n not even drunk.

My apologies all round.

that pic is awesome. It still looks odd to me, colorwise. I guess I suck at knowing what is "real".

I don't think basic post-processing makes a picture fake, but if other regular participants do I'm fine with them being pulled from judging.

I'm fine with a little sharpening or color enhancement. I wouldn't disqualify anything for that.

Normally all I do is scale the image down, but sometimes I will crop. In this latest round, I played with brightness and contrast slightly for one image. I've never done that before, but the image needed it (the capitol building one.)

Processing is part of picture-taking, even if it's 'post-production' processing. Focus, f-stop, exposure, ISO speed...that's all just 'pre'-production processing.

I didn't mean to suggest that it wasn't fine at all, it's just not within my personal interpretations -remember we can judge of best pic, cutest critter, best interprettion, most original idea -whatever criteria takes our fancy.

I'm sorry for all offence cause, that was never my intention. All y'all know I can barely take an in-focus picture and I've still won a few, so it's not even sour grapes. I was just curious on a tired and apparently therefore insensitive night. Mea Culpa
