I mail a shit ton more than that, mostly medical insurance claims that are, believe it or not, harder to file online than in hard copy. But I also live in a suburb with centralized mailboxes every block or so. Outgoing mail goes in the slot when we walk/drive to pick up our delivered mail.

Good set up Jim, being on the porch undercover.
I've got a big mailbox and if the truck is far enough away to fully swing the door I doubt the mailman could reach the back of the box. I attached a clip like the kind on employee badges to the inside of the door to hold outgoing so he opens the door and it's right there. Still have to use the flag to let him know in case there's no incoming. But quite often if it's something that isn't pressing I don't even bother with the flag. He's a nice guy and I try to make it as easy as I can for him. I figure if he likes me maybe he'll not deliver some bills.

We hope the mailman approves of the box. Eventually, I'll be out front when he comes and I'll find out if he likes it.

Maybe get him to sell commissioned boxes to my neighbors for a lithe piece of the action.

I can't wait to retire. Only 15 years to go.

As a profitable sideline? Uh... tell me again how long it took to carve the 8 ?

length of process just means increased retail price which means fewer sold but the end income is the same. Never underprice your art. If people like it, they will pay the price you ask.

There's someone in my parents' neighborhood who makes neon house numbers, and there are a bunch scattered around. No idea whether it's profitable, or just a hobby.

...beware the risk of non-profitable hobbies becoming chores and removing the joy from your art...... either do it for nothing for your best buddies only, or price your work appropriately. /killjoy

LJ -that is a fabulous piece of work, really nice design.

Don't do this.

In fifteen years, you'll be retired, maybe. But you'll also look back and wonder what the fuck, where did the time go? Where are my kids, they're not kids--whoa, etc etc. You have today, only. Live it now.

Nice mailbox though.
