Thank you so much-

I remember that one. It brings back such pleasent memories before I ever thought to allow this body and mind to become what it is today. Not that I would take any of it back.

Lyrics with meaning

Easy To Be Hard (from the musical "Hair")

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy To Be Hard; Easy to be cold

Oh, how can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud; Easy to say no

And especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend...

How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to give in; Easy to help out

Oh, and especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend...

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be hard; Easy to be cold
Easy to be proud;
Easy to say no.

I remember that one used to make me sort of cry, without the tears. I can really relate to this day, timeless.

When I was slacking in high school, and already writing songs for the new mellinium during class I stared out of a window at a bunch of cheer leaders happily rehearsing and other classmates thrashing around a ball field. Only I wasn't happy or healthy like the other kids, and it really wasn't my fault. It was on a day like this I penned the vocals for songs that wouldn't be released for at least 14 tears later. The group is called "Creed".

Boo-yahn rey woomah,
Wha rong wi yah
Booyan rey wah

-Boogie on Regae Woman, Stevie Wonder

No, listen to the song!

==

Seriously, all i could think of is "Mofo" from the U2 album 'Pop'.

"Mofo"

lookin' for to save my soul
lookin' in the places where no flowers grow
lookin' for to fill that GOD shaped hole

mother mother sucking rock and roll
(been around the back... been around the front)

holy dunc, spacejunk comin' in for the splash
white dpoes on punk staring into the flash
lookin' for baby Jesus under the trash

mother mother suckin' rock and roll
mother [scat singing] rock and roll

mother am i still your son, you know i've waited for so long to hear you say so
mother you left and made me someone
now i'm still a child but no one tells me no

lookin' for a sound that's gonna drown out the world
lookin' for the father of my two little girls
got the swing got the sway got my straw in lemonade
still looking for the face I had before the world was made

mother mother sucking rock and roll
bubble poppin' sugar droppin' rock and roll
[scat singing]

woo me sister
move me brother
soothe me mother
rule me father
show me mother
days passin
around each other

Something about the line "...no one tells me 'no' " makes me think about how my life has turned out so far outside the influence of my parents ['bout to the halfway mark].

I'm not really into music but I used to listen to the Missing Persons and thought this was cool.

Something feels so strange tonight
It's not wrong but it's just not right
Some hidden complications fill me with hesitation
And it gets so dark in here
I can't see through doubts and fears
Walled in by expectation I need a deviation

a change in perspective alternative view
to help me see clearly- observe something new

All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i wanna do anyway

All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i really wanna do anyway

Outside the world is dangerous
it's hard to find someone to trust
Fills me with reservation
Drives me into hibernation
I watch what's going on
but i don't want to belong
leave my my introspection
safely behind protection

All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i wanna do anyway
All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i really wanna do anyway

Looking through windows at the world
Looking through windows at the world
Safe behind windows from the world
Safe behind windows from the world
Watching my window world go by
Watching my window world go by
Without my window who am i?
Without my window who am i?

All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i wanna do anyway

All i want is a window to look through
All i need is a window to look through
It's the only thing that i really wanna do anyway

OMG, I used to love that song. It worked well with the chicks too. any guy who liked Missing Persons in the early 80's was, well, was "in" with the chicks - if ya know what I mean.

And the Clash, ahhh the good ol' days.

These lyrics are 23 years old, but I think they're surprisingly relevant today.

"The Spirit of Radio" -- Rush

Begin the day with a friendly voice
A companion unobtrusive
Plays the song that's so elusive
And the magic music makes your morning mood

Off on your way hit the open road
There is magic at your fingers
For the spirit ever lingers
Undemanding contact in your happy solitude

Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free

All this machinery making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted
It's really just a question of your honesty
Yeah, your honesty
One likes to believe in the freedom of music
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity

Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free

For the words of the profits were written on the studio wall
Concert hall
And echoes with the sounds of salesmen
Of salesman

Hallowed Be Thy Name
- Iron Maiden

I'm waiting in my cold cell, when the bell begins to chime.
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time.
'Cause at 5 o'clock they take me to the Gallows pole,
The sands of time for me are running low.

When the priest comes to read me the last rites,
I take a look through the bars at the last sights,
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me.

Can it be that there's some sort of error.
Hard to stop the surmounting terror.
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream.

Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming,
It's not so easy to stop from screaming,
The words escape me when I try to speak.
Tears flow but why am I crying,
After all I'm not afraid of dying.
Don't I believe that there never is an end.

As the guards march me out to the courtyard,
Somebody cries from a cell "God be with you".
If there's a God then why has he let me go?

As I walk all my life drifts before me,
Though the end is near I'm not sorry.
Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away.

Mark my words believe my soul lives on.
Don't worry now that I have gone.
I've gone beyond to seek the truth.

When you know that your time is close at hand.
Maybe then you'll begin to understand,
Life down here is just a strange illusion

But if you want to talk Rush...

Everyday Glory

In the house where nobody laughs
And nobody sleeps
In the house where love lies dying
And the shadows creep
A little girl hides shaking,
With her hands on her ears
Pushing back the tears,
'Til the pain disappears

Mama says some ugly words
Daddy pounds the wall
They can fight about their little girl later
Right now they don't care at all

No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...

Everyday people
Everyday shame
Everyday promise shot down in flames
Everyday sunrise
Another everyday story
Rise from the ashes and blaze
In everyday glory

In the city where nobody smiles
And nobody dreams
In the city where desperation
Drives the bored to extremes
Just one spark of decency
Against a starless night
One glow of hope and dignity
A child can follow the light

No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...
No matter what they say...

Everyday people
Everyday shame
Everyday promise shot down in flames
Everyday sunrise
Another everyday story
Rise from the ashes and blaze
In everyday glory

If the future's looking dark
We're the ones who have to shine
If there's no one in control
We're the ones who draw the line
Though we live in trying times
We're the ones who have to try
Though we know that time has wings
We're the ones who have to fly...

Kinda cool for a song about a guy that comes home and kills his family, I thought.
Wow, is THAT what that song is about? I had no idea! I just know that I love the song.

*who also had no idea that "Every Breath You Take" was about a stalker...REALLY! I just thought it was about obsession...well, ok I suppose the two can go hand in hand*.

My favorite Police song, hands down, no contest...great riff, awesomely dark and brooding. And the lyrics...oh my.

The Randall Knife (Guy Clark)

My father had a Randall knife
My mother gave it to him
When he went off to WWII
To save us all from ruin
If you've ever held a Randall knife
Then you know my father well
If a better blade was ever made
It was probably forged in hell

My father was a good man
A lawyer by his trade
And only once did I ever see
Him misuse the blade
It almost cut his thumb off
When he took it for a tool
The knife was made for darker things
And you could not bend the rules

He let me take it camping once
On a Boy Scout jamboree
And I broke a half an inch off
Trying to stick it in a tree
I hid it from him for a while
But the knife and he were one
He put it in his bottom drawer
Without a hard word one

There it slept and there it stayed
For twenty some odd years
Sort of like Excalibur
Except waiting for a tear

My father died when I was forty
And I couldn't find a way to cry
Not because I didn't love him
Not because he didn't try
I'd cried for every lesser thing
Whiskey, pain and beauty
But he deserved a better tear
And I was not quite ready

So we took his ashed out to sea
And poured `em off the stern
And threw the roses in the wake
Of everything we'd learned
When we got back to the house
They asked me what I wanted
Not the lawbooks not the watch
I need the things he's haunted

My hand burned for the Randall knife
There in the bottom drawer
And I found a tear for my father's life
And all that it stood for

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next

I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
