Having to watch others in pain

This is one of the hardest things.

My oldest son has had his seasonal affective (mood, depressive) symptoms descend on him as the days shorten. He's withdrawing socially, not sleeping, struggling. He's had more than one psychotic depression in the past. He called me tonight because he'd promised, several months ago, to keep the lines of communication open. He has been suicidal before, most recently this year. I'm in the same area for the next six weeks, but what after that? Should I move to the DC area? I hate to think of being far away and unable to be there in a crisis.

There are other major crises looming with my other three children. It looks like being a very rocky fall.
