So, Who's had the insect?

How about a nice Chardonnay to go with it?

Enough sake, possibly.

Looks like a case of insect-a-cide.

Salt n' Vinegar crickets aren't bad, except the legs get stuck in your teeth. Grasshoppers are nasty, IIRC, although the Rumplemintz may have distorted my taste buds.....

Has anyone been to the laneway in Beijing just off the main pedestrian mall (Wanfujing) where they serve everything you can imagine on sticks including insects?

One would need to start drinking well before the food was brought out.

Hong Kong had a place like that when I went in the late 80's. I didn't have the guts to try them back then.

That plate is not a joke? Looks gross. No offense to anyone who likes "exotic" food.

Now I'm thinking about a book that I read (I think it was called Lucky Child) which talked about having to eat insects in labour camps in Cambodia while the Khmer Rouge were in power just to try and get some kind of nutrition...basically there was nothing else to eat, so anything was fair game.

Sure, but I don't consider that voluntarily.
Voluntarily is when you're walking down the street, feeling a little hungry, and on the left is the Insect-on-a-stick store, and on the right McDonalds... no wait, that would be a toss up.
Well, you know what I mean.

Hmmm, you know, the insect on stick is looking increasingly attractive.
