Today, I installed a Progressive Touring Link chassis stabilizer. A guy on the Harley forum I joined sent it to me for free. Said don't worry about the shipping even. I bought one of his County music CDs, and will mail him a gremlin bell in thanks.
This kit mitigates lateral movement of the swing arm, which can cause a dangerous wobble during high speed bank turns. The kit includes a modified swing arm mounting bracket that adds an anchor point, an L bracket that mounts to the rear of the transmission case and adds another anchor point, and a dog bone style tensioner that lives between those two anchor points and let's you set the lateral position of the swing arm. The dog bone comes pre-set, and should fit. If it doesn't, you need to perform a chassis alignment. Mine fit fine. What wasn't fine was one of the bolts that attach the swingarm mount. Looks like it was already cracked, as there is a patina on the inside of the bolt halves. Probably dangerous. I also changed the color of the bulbs in the small guages on the dash. I'll have to send the tach and speedo out if I want them to be blue.

Lucky you caught that swing arm bolt, that could have been tragic. I suggest you ask Harley about the proper bolt for that application, I find it hard to believe that's the proper bolt. See how the threads inside the hole are worn and rounded? That's because a shoulder bolt should have been used for that spot, having thread inside the smooth hole is a big design no-no.

One more note.... The Corbin seat I got needs 2000-3500 miles to 'learn' your ass. Miles equate to minutes in my mind, so I did some math. Assuming, somewhat arbitrarily, that the average Mph I do is 45 mph, 2000 miles comes to appx 44 hours.
If I get the bike back on the road by July 15th, that's only 4.3 weeks until we go for the long ride vacation dad's 75th birthday party trip. I would need to do 10 hours a week to break it in in time. So I've been cheating. I put the lift under the bike and Jack it up just enough that it sits level. A board across the luggage rack simulates the rear fender mounting position. So I'm into my 3rd hour of preseason break in. I'm also using this time to work on some songs on the guitar so my dad and I can entertain the atendees of the birthday party weekend. We rented a Manor in Lynchburg VA. The NC and PA/MD branches of the family will meet there in mid August. After it breaks up, Amanda and I will have 4 more days to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway again. So, it's weird to be sitting in my driveway or garage, on a skeletal motorcycle playing a travel size guitar ... unless you know the back story. ... Ok, it's weird even if you know why I'm doing it. Meh. I'm ok with weird.

Can you elucidate on what you mean by the wrong bolt?

It's the right bolt. Part # 4752 7/16 1 1/4 hex head. I got a replacement at Lowe's.
This site : http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.....asp?make=hdmc Is a huge help in finding part numbers. My bike is an 05 FLHTI. Vin code is FV. You can order right from them, or use the info to find the aftermarket part by googling the part number. Some stuff like bolts and wire connectors are priced right, but I got the $68 motor mount for $20 from Drag Specialties.

Went to see the spray out of the color and matte finish. What do you think? It's a little lighter in the sun.... But I expect the seat is too. I think the luster is dead on.

We went kayaking today. Amanda, my sister Heather and her daughter, Spirt, husband Pat, and myself.
Just a 3 hour trip, and slow water, but I had a really nice time. It wasn't crazy hot out... The river was a little crowded.... But a good day. Finished the day a Victory Brewing. Good food, great beer, terrible service. It was his first day.... Yeah sure....
