I'm happy today because brother-in-law just left after a 3-day visit...

Not because he's gone, but because he finally found employment after a 24+ yr stint in the (JAG core) Army. He and his wife (also a 20 yr vet) retired and they both have had a hard time finding work in their field. But things are looking up now. Yea !

Lil Lookout showed up for his 8AM game to find the other team didn't show up. Not a single one of them. Bastards.

However, on an adjacent field there were a field of 14 year old girls that had the same problem. The coaches talked and decided the 9 and 10 year old boys would play the 14 year old girls. The girls went easy on them for the 18 seconds it took for S****** to score then they started playing the boys hard. Lil Lookout had 3 goals and 1 assist in their 6-3 victory. The girls and their parents were good sports about it and congratulated the boys.

School and the children are making my happy today.
We've been learning pirate songs to sing after school - we're selling Treasure Hunt Maps for a real treasure hunt, although the correct entries go into a draw, rather than treasure being buried! This is to raise funds for a Pirate Party at the end of term.

Also, the children know it is my birthday this week as I am going in Monday and Wednesday rather than my usual Friday. They can't quite grasp the Wednesday things (my birthday's on Friday, but the class is taken by a different teacher and TA on those days) but they are excited anyway.

Attached, my first card.

Translated (except for my name):

To Miss Only, This is your surprise. Have an awesome party with your friends. May all your wishes come true. You're an excellent helper, thank you. From -------
PS sorry about the front cover [it's a piece of card which already has printing on it]

My lead singer has accepted a position as manager of Eclipse, a quite good Pink Floyd tribute band. I think this will mean good things for him, and in turn, good things for our band too.

Googling an old college friend some time ago I noticed that he plays sax (as he always did) in a Floyd tribute band, in Cleveland.

That ain't no easy music to play.

In 1997 sax player Bob Barno was literally plucked from a smoky blues bar to perform with the band
Yeah, the guy I had a Bacon Beagle Burger with! One of my best (and purely platonic) friends from college. We and 4 others spent a fun weekend at Lake Cumberland the year he (and the two other guy friends) graduated. The other two were my roommate and our friend from Buffalo. What a great time!

I can't wait to someday see your band, UT.
