Deer Me
My buddy’s son lives a half dozen miles from here, and had a landscaping crew working at his place yesterday. He went out and looking at his split rail fence along the road, the last section that ends at the driveway has the three rails busted. He suspected the landscapers backed their trailer into it and said nothing which really pissed him off.
So he runs the video from the security camera. It’s a quite a ways from the busted fence but certainly would show what happened. Backed it up to where the fence was whole and started watching when a deer comes across the road, makes a feeble attempt at jumping and crashes through the fence and takes off without missing a beat. The bottom and middle rails have the end that goes into the post broken off but the top rail was broken right in the middle. Why didn’t it run through the opening in the fence for the driveway? Maybe it wanted to stay on the grass. Why it didn’t leap over the piddling 4 foot fence, who knows? Maybe the ground was too soft to push off, or maybe it was hurt? My buddy showed me the footage on his phone so I really can't say much about the deer.

Maybe I need to start blaming deer for stuff.

Do y'all have Elk? Those are big boys.
Of course, nothing competes in fence destruction with wild hogs.

The elk are a couple counties south and west from here. The pigs may have been eradicated.

My buddy sent me a copy of his son's security cam footage that he'd showed me on his phone. It's an 18.4 MB MOV and I was surprised it's in color, it looked like B&W on his phone. For some reason it's turned 90 degrees, maybe because it's emailed from his iPhone, but I don't know how to turn it. Now I lay me down to watch.
Seeing it on the 24" monitor it looks like the buck forgot his glasses as it looks like he made the leap for length rather than height and was way too low. The rails he broke were only a year old. Damifino.
