2/13/2004: Pet buffalo
It's cold and lonely in Alberta, in western Canada, and surely you might wish you had a warm body around to share the northern winters. Jim and Linda Sautner are bison ranchers out there, and they have 270 of the beasts, but this one found its way into their home after being abandoned by its mother, and is now their pet. He became unusually tame after they raised him by hand. Bailey the Buffalo is 725 kilograms in weight (1,600 pounds) and enjoys watching TV in the couple's living room. Would they ever eat Bailey? No. But they do eat his brethren, and they describe a Christmas dinner with guests where they all had bison meat with Bailey happily looking on from the background. full story |

1,600 pounds! That's 533 pounds per hoof when he's walking - how does he not go through the floor?? And is he housebroken? I don't see him fitting through the doggy door and didn't think Bison were smart enough to say "take me outside."
More questions then answers on this one.

As someone who moved into that area about six months ago (this story has been all. over. the local news the last couple of days), I can attest that in all probability, yes. A lot of people in this neck of the prairie actually wear that kind of garb on a daily basis. I wouldn't have believed it myself before I came here. |

Really Quz, I would have pegged you for a different response to this one.
I'm not saying anything! It's all good. As for B's eye for backgrounds, well I do need those warm bodies myself in the lonely Pennsylvania winter. |

I wonder what it was like bottle feeding that thing. Calves push you around enough when they get older and think you're going to feed them.

That picture is clearly ridiculous. Buffalo wings are much smaller, and a Buffalo can have up to 250 wings, hidden under their fur. They use them as fans, to cool down. The wings can be harvested, because they grow back.
Just a little science lesson.
