And yes, a duvet goes on the bed, in a duvet cover.
But quilt is often used to mean the same.
And in most places, duvet is pronounced DOO-vay. Although I did know a lad from the West Country who called it a JEW-vay. But then he said tuth-brush as well.

I call mine a comforter, and I put a duvet cover on it. Sometimes, but they're usually too big and flop around and annoy me.
