Does anyone feel like bowling?

http://cellar.org/showthread.php?t=18176

When's the last time you flung a ball down a lane? Bowling is FUN.

My best bowling story:

When I was a teenager, my parents belonged to a bowling league. I often went to the bowling alley with them on league nights to baby sit the younger children of some of the team members.

One of my parents' teammates was Bing Russell, whom my mother befriended when he came to her place of work (plastic surgeon's office - mom was the doctor's surgical RN) for an eyelid job.

Anyway, one night, Bing brought his teenaged son along to the bowling alley....

Nifty!

I bowl about a 150. Hm, sounds like something fun to do with the kids over Christmas break.

I was *invited* to go bowling a couple weeks ago. Couldn't go because daughter had a cheer competition. Does that count?

Good on all of you! (I confess, I haven't bowled in at least 10 years. Must get the neighbors to go with me...)

Here's another bowling story:

When I was about 18, my best friend Jody got a phone call in the middle of the night.
Jody: "mmnnn'lo?"

Caller: "Do you like to bowl?"

Jody: "What? Bowl? Who is this?"

Caller: "I can bowl all night long. I love to bowl. Don't you?"

Jody: "Uh... I guess so. Who is this?"
This went on for awhile, until Jody started to wake up, and it dawned on her that the guy was saying "BALL."

I am insufficently blue collar to bowl.

That's not to say I haven't done it.

I have friends who own their own balls and shoes.

I have always been somewhat suspicious of rental shoes, although it's probably the balls that are major sources of wicked infections. At least they spray the interior of the shoes with that stuff before they put them back in the rack behind the counter.

I get extremely excited when I bowl over 100. This is a very rare event. I usually bowl in the 80s-90s.

The last time I went bowling was probably on Rock 'n Bowl night at the long-gone Town & Country Lanes in Lansdale. I used to go with my friends' kids, because they weren't allowed to drive after midnight because of curfew. The lights were turned down on the alleys, they had a disco ball, and blacklights on the pins (which was really cool looking). If you had a colored head-pin and bowled a strike, you won a free game ticket from the DJ.

I am not much good at bowling. Fun an' all but not really my scene.

I recall about fifteen years ago, when J and I were living together, J's bro John (I use his name because, frankly, another 'J' would just confuse things especially since J's current partner is also a 'J') suggested we all go bowling. Can't remember how it ended up with my Mum joining us but it did. She'd never been bowling before. John was a bit full of himself and was pretty good at bowling, so he was anticipating beating the crap out of the rest of us.

Off we went: Me, J, his brother John, John's girlfriend, whose name I no longer remember, a couple of friends and my Mum.

Turned out Ma was a natural. John found it quite frustrating (in an amusing kind of a way). She, without any expectations of success, bowled strike after strike after strike.

You know, I'd be pretty cool if someone would just get a good three finger grip on my ball.

I don't think you'd be cool with getting the holes drilled, though.

That was a geology classroom! It's got rocks.

I suppose it could be a geology classroom, but the image comes from www.asplinteredhistoryofwood.com and the caption reads:

Regis Miller, retired wood anatomist with the Forest Products Laboratory, shows off an early two-finger bowling ball crafted from solid lignum vitae.
So.... I'm going to take a bold guess here and say it's not a geology classroom and those aren't rocks.

Nor is it lumberjim. (Jeez, people, lighten up).
