Jeff Bezos has alleged that David Pecker and the publisher of The National Enquirer have sought to blackmail him.

You really should read his post, it's pretty damning.

I think Bezos' integrity and courage here are to be applauded. And I think he'll be OK. The man's got options.

Extortion. Plain and simple. And nothing would please me more than to see Mr. Bezos bring the full weight of his influence, and fortune to bear against this egregious attempt at blackmail.

Has any career taken a hit nearly as hard as "journalism". A journalist used to be a respected member of society, now they've slid so far down the scale, that they're only barely more well-regarded than your average child molester.

Bezos had nothing to lose--the affair and resulting divorce were already publicized, and these days most people just assume that anyone in a dating relationship is sexting. Plus his wife is getting a metric shit ton of money, assuming there was no prenup, so no one really feels bad for her, either.

David Letterman refused to be blackmailed, and he came out fine. Takes a second to even remember it happened! The truth shall set you free.
