ALS
Anyone here ever had any experience with this disease?

My wife and I took care of her father, who had ALS. He lived with us for the last few months of his life. The disease presented itself in his throat and the time of his first symptoms until he passed was rather brief. We were told that if the disease presents itself at your extremities it takes longer to progress to the heart and lungs.
Do you or someone you know have ALS?

ALS.. isnt that the same as Lou Gehrig's disease? Jason Becker has that, and he is definitely one of my heroes. He's actually supposedly getting better, slowly.

ALS is also called Lou Gehrig's. I wasn't aware that anyone could get better, but that's good news for Jason.

One of the problems with ALS is that it can only be 100% diagnosed at autopsy. I think they refer to the suspicion of ALS as a "clinical" diagnosis. I can't remember, it was several years ago that my FIL died.
Maybe Brianna can help us. So it is possible that your man has something that seems like ALS, not to downgrade his miracle.

Ib, I'm not saying he doesn't have it, he probably does. It is a completely fucked up disease. So little is known about it or its cause. (At least when we were in the thick of it, with FIL)
One thing is that it has its own trajectory which can vary enormously. Some folks can be stable for years and other can degenerate rapidly. Your man Jason seems particularly insightful and wise beyond his years. I think it is awesome that he essentially told the doctors and experts to go pound salt and started himself on his spiritual path. Having read Yogananda's books, I'd not be surprised a lick if Jason lived to be 90. Thanks for the link to his site, I'm inspired; you've got a great hero there.

And he's an amazing guitarist to boot! He composed an entire album with his eyes, which was played by Eddie. I haven't read Yogananda's books but I really want to.

foot...my brother's neurologist seems to think he has this disease. Time will tell though. I'm not going to lose the plot over it yet.

Aliantha, I'm really sorry to hear your brother may have ALS. If I can help with any info that I have, let me know. It was a few years ago that my Father in Law was sick. (it was around 2000 or 2001).
As you say, time will tell. It can take a long, long time for the disease to progress.

Thanks foot. My brother isn't coping too well with the thought of it. I'm trying to encourage him to be strong in mind as well as body and not submit to anything before he has no choice. It's a tough one though. I'll let you know how things work out over the next few weeks.
