Your best/favorite original image (with voting!)

I'll modify the poll as entries are added. Just indicate you want to be included in the voting when you post your image.

By now, NBN has realized that only a forum moderator can modify polls in a thread.

I'd suggest that members should be allowed to change their votes, otherwise folks will hold off voting indefinitely because a better pic might get posted after their votes are recorded.

Each member should have only one vote, but should be able to change the vote as required. Can that be done without major changes to the coding?

Just my two cents ...

Otherwise one should specify a time within which pics must be submitted and the poll closed. Thereafter everyone would be permitted only one vote per member.

Sorry man, it's not in the code now, and there are much more important things for me to do when I get around tuit.

Smashing idea, Nic.

NBN, may I suggest Thursday for a submission cut off date, Monday the 3rd for a poll closing?

This thread has been an interesting test, and proof of concept of a couple of ideas. Original work and voting.

Perhaps we could have a regular "date stamped" series of images called something like:

My Pic of the Week (ending 5/31/02) etc.

Submissions Mon-Thur and voting anytime thereafter, indefinitely.

The "my pic" is a double entendre.

"My picture" being applicable to the posts which must be original images by the members.

"My pick" referring to the voting by all the members.

This could be a unique idea for a new forum to build community, because it involves the individual members personally, and it involves all the members collectively as a jury of peers. As there is no "close" of the poll, new members can vote on old threads, which are new to them. This would be an opportunity for interaction by new members who have a fresh vote for material posted before they joined.

And, as the Cellar community grows, we're seeing a lot of talented and creative people joining the Cellar. It would be good to see their personalities evident in personal works. This could also be a significant point of differentiation of Cellar.

If this is something interesting, perhaps it should be in a separate forum in Images, which would allow for a "moderator" such as NBN to set up the polls. If this is too much work for one guy, perhaps we could all moderate in rotation with a new moderator and thread starter in each month, to spare all the work of managing the voting polls falling back on UT.

Anyway, it's a thought.

Another thought that might work with this is that the thread starter should set a "theme" for the week, say, faces, sunsets, buildings, women, men, children, flowers, weather, pets, etc ... the themes could be as open as the imagination. This would be helpful in the voting of comparable images each week. Themes would make each thread distinguishable from the others, rather than all threads being a hodge podge of unrelated images.

The theme could be shown in the thread title, too. My Pic of the Week (ending 5/31/02) [pets] or, if My Pic of the Week were the forum heading, then the thread titles could look like this [Pets] for the week ending 5/31/02

I'm not sure why I used "smashing" at the time. Looking at it now, it DOES sound funny.
