A puzzle for June 25th
I probably fucked it up, I hate these things, but I gave it my best shot....
1) solve it. 2) interpret the last equation in a meaningful way. 3) respond appropriately.

OK, I solved it, I think. But I don't have any idea how the final equation has significance, so this response may not be appropriate.

OK, here's how it was supposed to go.......
Grey/Gray V (?gravy) = 13, right? next one Blue J =1 because 1 + (1 * 13) = 14 so then.... the pinko must be 3 which means the Limey is 60 .....so then you were supposed to to wish her a HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY

E - (13 x 3) -1 = 20
so 20 + 38 = E Then E = 58 What am I doing wrong?  But Happy Birthday Limey!!

taking the 1 from the 39 instead of from the 60?
60 - 39 - 1 = 20

I went to school in an era when the teaching ethos was we would pick up the rules as we went along. I didn't even know what grammar was until I was about 12 and as for order of operations -well they taught us, but then put everything in brackets anyway so we didn't need to worry our hippy little heads about it...

That's easy, Grammar is Grannpa's wife.
Yes it works, that is what I was doing wrong. I was subtracting 1 from the 39 instead of subtracting the 39 from E then 1 from the result.
