Are we not fat enough?
First there was the KFC Double Down. Now Carl Jr. has the foot long cheeseburger.

I mentioned in the vacation thread, driving east from Texas to Florida, we saw all-you-can-eat KFCs.

I've never seen a modern KFC without a buffet. Almost all buffets are all you can eat...not sure why it's any different than a buffet at a chinese restaurant. You take what you want and eat what you take (Dale's Smorgasbord Golden Rule.)

I've never seen a buffet in KFC in my life. I don't know how I feel about the whole concept one way or the other... it's a little terrifying.

It just has all the chicken choices, mac and cheese, wedge fries, green beans. The things you find on the menu only on a buffet. They have someone designated to constantly keep an eye on things.
I don't eat it, but I thought it was just what they were doing. Maybe it's regional. "You know you're a redneck when you live in a town that has a buffet in their KFC." LOL

Wow, that actually sounds kind of awesome. But what good is it if I can't get INFINITE DOUBLE-DOWNS?
![]() (actually haven't tried even one, they also sort of terrify me, but the thought just blows my mind) Buffets in general out where I live on the west coast are generally amazingly hard to come by. They were all over every place I lived in the Midwest. I think there's only a Sizzler here in town. A couple towns over there are some scattered chinese buffets, but they are... I keep using words like this but I mean it, truly horrific. Like, every single surface is covered in a thick layer of grease, and they're always insanely crowded and very loud. The closest one I went to I watched from my table this unattended little kid at the dessert table get a big blob of green jello on his plate, slorp all that was left off the serving spoon, and stick it back in the bin! Other than that I think there's a reasonably well-kept Hometown Buffet about 40 minutes away, which is also insanely crowded often, but their food is usually at least passably fresh and the at least place is very clean and pretty well-stocked. Oh, and there's Fresh Choice, which is my favorite - soup and salad buffet. Always fresh, cold or hot as appropriate, meticulously clean and stocked with as many locally-sourced ingredients as possible, nutrition information readily posted, and really good overall price. |

SoCal is pretty well fixed for buffets. In Oxnard and nearby towns we have a Chinese buffet that has changed its name and maybe management at least three times -- and its menus hardly at all; they do okay Mongolian BBQ along with the steamtable Chinese -- a Hometown, a Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes (good soup there), and the best Mongolian on offer around here, an all you can eat place called Wok'n'South. (Oh, these Californians!)
Otherwise, salad bars are more likely. The KFCs here are non-buffet...

The KFCs here are not the buffet variety and usually share a building with Taco Bell or A&W. They use to have buffets at some of them, though.

We have two chinese buffets nearly catty-corner to each other. One is in the old Ponderosa restaurant building and one is in an old McDonalds: hence "did you go to Chinarosa or McChinese?"

Here in France, some health organizations are asking the government to ban "XL-Size" menus either in McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, etc...

No all you can eat buffets around here for at least 50 miles. We do have a Taco Bell which has been advertising its "drive thru diet." I've never bothered with the items on it, though. If I'm at Taco Bell, I've blown my diet, anyway.
