For MMORPG Gaming: Apple or PC?

OK, so in February I have the option of getting a DELL computer through work, (max of $2500) made to order, or buying an Apple.

Understand that I only want to use the new computer for gaming, specifically Dark Age of Camelot, Neverwinter Nights, Warcraft 3, Black and White, etc. The only internet I will run is connection to the game servers. Everything else will be done on my existing system, including any kazaa, surfing, email, etc.

So what do you suggest, O thou of the myriad OS and technology experiences?

You're wasting an Apple if you're not going to use it, so buy a Dell. Leave the Mac for someone who will actually do something with it.

But isn't a Mac better at graphics and video? That's what I'm going to be doing primarily on this system. I'm asking which is better for gaming, not whether or not you think I'll be wasting the rest of the functionality.

If you want to be able to play the latest and greatest games on the day they're released, get a PC. If you're willing to wait a while, and risk the game possibly never being released for Mac, then go Mac. If I was buying a gaming system, it would be a PC. Dave will probably correct me on this, but I also believe its harder to upgrade video / sound in a Mac.

Games come out for the PC much sooner than for the Mac, if they come out for the Mac at all. However, most of the good games come out for the Mac eventually. I don't play games on the Mac, so I can't speak to the relative play quality.

PCs have more options when it comes to hardware upgrades, as well. Of course, more options implies more chances for bugs.

Macs are currently aimed at media playing/editing more than games.

Macs aren't good for anything except IM. Buy a PC.

(Upgrading video and sound in a Macintosh is actually easier than it is in most PCs. So is upgrading the hard drive, adding memory, adding a SCSI card, adding/switching optical drives, etc.)

(Many games come out at the same time for Mac and PC. For example, Quake 3 was essentially a simultaneous release, and WarCraft III actually has both the Mac and Windows version on the same CD. All the good games eventually come out for Mac, and there are some games that come out sooner - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, for example.)

Onyx, buy a PC. Buying a Mac for just gaming is like buying a Porsche for driving around the block. It's a waste. If you're really not going to do anything else on it, buy a PC. If you're going to be open minded and maybe check it out and eventually make a switch (you will, if you spend any time at all with a Macintosh other than just playing games, which are going to be virtually identical on either platform), then buy a Mac. But demand is so high for Macs right now, people often times have to wait to get one. So if you're not really going to use it, then let someone else get it who will.

See, that's a MUCH more resonable response, Dave. I'll get the PC, because I trust your opinion. Thank you.
