Trip to Tacoma

Yay! I bought my tickets and am going at the end of July to visit Daughter No. 2 and newest grandbabycloud! I'm taking my oldest granddaughter with me to visit her cousins, as a treat.

So, I know there are lots of things to do, and I've been there before; even lived in Seattle for a year. And I'm not really there to do sightseeing--I'm there to see family.

But--any ideas for something "oceany" to do for the kids? Grandaughter No. 1 wanted to study the ocean, and has never seen the ocean (or gone on a plane) so she's really excited. I know there's the Sound, which is not exactly ocean, but it's close enough.

Are you willing to drive 30 min north to Seattle for something "oceany"? I don't have any Tacoma area experiences, but I do know the Seattle area quite well, and could make several suggestions.

I'm sure we will go to Seattle at least once. I think for our "oceany" we will go to the acquarium and ride a ferry.

Navy?

Not only does Bruces' question confuse me but so does the use of the word 'sound' If you mean Puget Sound ..you can't get anymore OCEANY than that.

Bruce. The Puget sound has 2,500 miles of shoreline. There are open ports so yes the Navy does stop there. :p

Here cloud ....is the Tacoma visitors guide. Have fun on your trip.

Ferry boat = fairy boat... It's an old joke.

2500 miles of shoreline? lake Superior has more than that, but that doesn't make it oceany.
Puget is a sound because it's sheltered water. Houseboats don't work where it's oceany. Hard to call it oceany when you can see the other side... watery at best.

I would love to see Lake Superior.

......and yes watery but smelling like salt water and rotting sea urchins clam cowder huts and fish markets make it OCEANY. Come and smell it Bruce and you'll say "I WAS WRONG". "IT'S OCEANY."

Nope, I've been there a dozen times.
To me, oceany is standing on the shore, watching the waves roll in (douche, douche), hearing the gulls (schmuck, schmuck) and seeing nothing but an occasional boat, bird or bikini.
The larger Great lakes give you the waves and clear horizon, but not the oceany stink.

Daughter No. 2 says they're having a heat wave. I'll be very pissed if I get up there from El Paso and it's 100 degrees.

It's "swoosh swoosh" and "screetch screetch" I don't know. Gulls have an annoying call but to use those words douche and schmuk as discriptions just reminds me of my x boyfriend. *shrug* go figure.

I found a wave of birds. One of the gulls. See for yourself.

Oh I got it...gulls say..."creep..creeep"

We only have ponds and one or two man made lakes. ....plus one.
