Book charities

Does anyone here participate in or know about any good charities to which one can donate books? I have a bunch of books that need to find a good home.

That being said, let me plug two book charities I happen to like.

http://www.booksforsoldiers.com is a website where US military personnel request books, games, movies, and care packages to help with morale. The sign-up process is a little involved, you have to notarize an application and mail it in.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/ This I have never tried but I want to. You sign up to the website to get an ID for each book you plan to use, then you leave those books in places where people will find them (the subway, a bus stop, a coffee shop, etc)- this is called releasing books into the wild. These books should have a sticker on them or note with the website and the book ID so that the person who finds it can post about having found the book. It is a way of sharing your favorite books with strangers and then getting to see their reaction.
