Golf History in the Making

Tom Watson, at age 58, is clinging to a one shot lead at the British Open at Turnberry going into Sunday's final round. If he wins, he would be the oldest player to ever win a PGA Tournament event, let alone a major. Watson's battle with Jack Nicklaus at Turnberry in the late 70's is still a golf legend, and he won three British Opens in his heyday.

Now, I'm not the sort of guy who sits and just watches golf, but our hometown boy is poised to possibly make golf history tomorrow. If Watson wins it, it will in all likelihood be the biggest sports story of the year, if not the decade.

One of the things that makes sports enjoyable is when people do amazing things that the rest of us can only imagine. This may be one of those moments.

Our Current Events teacher in HS would have trivia about, well, current events. I remember a couple golf questions, I just answered Tom Watson: it was almost always the answer. Mr P thought I was a big golf fanatic.

Go TOM!

I just turned it on the TV. I don't really seek out to watch golf, but I really enjoy it when I catch it. Tom is currently leading.

One ten foot putt to make history, and he missed it...badly. Then folded like a tissue paper kite in a wind tunnel in the playoff.

Still, he made a hell of a run, something the likes of which is not often seen. He didn't win, but he was awesome and inspiring.

Yeah, the playoff was too hard to watch.

Still, it was a nice week for him and for golf aficionados.

Are you sure he's not from Philly?
