How to find a good veterinarian

My kitties need a new one, because I got pissed at the old one for baiting and switching me (i.e., by advertising a monthly special on services, but having no openings). So I have a choice of probably 8 to 10 on my side of town. Any tips for choosing?

Go visit them. Ask them the charges for the annual check-ups and shots. See if you like the receptionists. Ask them how long in advance you usually need to schedule routine appointments. Look at the people in the waiting room. Do they seem like you? Does it smell funny? etc

I can recommend the Johnsen Animal Hospital on George Dieter.

I use them and have for several years now. Their charges are reasonable, always manage to fit me in if needed, friendly staff, excellent facilities and well-trained vets. The receptionist always remembers which of my dogs is which and asks after the ones that aren't in that day (seven at once is too much for us).

I also use the 24 hr clinic on Airway for emergency care after hours.

You could have just asked me!

You'll just have to come to Ohio and see Dr Doug (that's what we've always called him, I won't post his last name.) He's so awesome. I fear the day he retires, though I think his son might take over. He's an old farm vet, but specializes in small animals too. If you can find a good old country vet...go there!
