Verizon DSL discount offer
Never let it be said that the phone company can't be useful once in a while.
I've been a Verizon DSL customer for some time now, and have had very few complaints (the USENET feed is rock-solid, connectivity has been good, no spam leaking through (not that I use those email accounts much), only one technical issue that required assistance).
Their latest offer drops the price for new customers to $34.95 a month for 768kbps service, and the MSN 8 piece of it is optional. You also get one month free, and an extra gift ($25 Virtual MasterCard, an optical mouse or a cheap webcam/digital camera).
"That's great, but I'm an EXISTING customer. What about me?" I thought to myself.
I checked with Verizon's billing, and not only did they drop me to the $34.95 rate, they UPGRADED me to 1.5Mbps. Double the speed for fifteen bucks a month less -- not too shabby.
(Check with 'em. If your neighborhood qualifies, I know of nobody who can beat these rates for DSL. If you do know of someone else who can, tell me so that I can try and hook my Dad up, as Verizon's not servicing his block yet.)
