If things seem slow today --

It's the code red III worm "Nimda" at work. I'm seeing 3000-4000 extra hits for every site I operate, over the last 24 hours, and this morning it has been really really bad.

My circuit is not overwhelmed by this traffic, but lots of others are.

This is much different than the previous code red worms. I would get one hit every few hours with those. With this one, they just keep knocking and knocking. They can't get in, but every knock takes a little network resource.

Nimda isn't actually a Code Red variant. It's a new virus which happens to use the same vulnerability --- PLUS many others. It spreads through email. It spreads through Windows shares. It even spreads through web pages (though I have no idea how).

But it still doesn't infect Macs.

Oddly enough, my DSL line has not been overwhelmed, though the Apache log is getting pretty large.
