Some of you folks on this board aren't american... just how hard is it to get citizenship in your respective countries? ( I promise I won't make a mess, and I'm a fairly productive person

Australia is a hugely multi cultural country and i believe, it is fairly easy to become a citizen. In my place of work, City CBD SYDNEY, i work with a team of 55 people and i am one of only 5 Australians, the rest have all immigrated here. So it cant be that hard if everybody is doing it.
http://www.citizenship.gov.au/why.htm http://www.immi.gov.au/citizen/ That is if you do it the correct way. The legal way. It may take a little time but i dont think its that complicated, or costly. Try to sneak in on a boat, however, and we will lock you up in concentration camps so that you sew your lips together and kill each other.

sun_sparkz, australia is much harder than you think. Getting permanant residency and work status can be very, very difficult and time consuming.
Switzerland I think is normally 6 years for citizenship but I could be wrong. Not sure on Australia, thought it was 10 but I think that's wrong.

Judging from where I work, pretty much anyone can get into the US, and once you are here, it doesn't actually seem to matter all that much if you are an actual citizen or not. You still get public health assistance, food stamps, social security, free education, and you can hold jobs.
I'm not real sure citizenship is the big deal it once was, at least, not as far as day to day living goes. Or am I way off base?

I was wondering something
Come to the UK it seems like we're letting any fucker in.
Breaking news, nine afgan men hijack a plane in in 1991,go to trial found guilty. The judge screws up misdirects the jury they get off on a technicality. Hearing finds that the Home Office is correct to refuse asylum but get this an Immigration Appellete Authority states its against the European Convension on Human rights to send them back. Mullah's that preach race hate get sponsored by the london police to give lectures in the uk. Yea come to the uk lawyers, social workers and assorted do-gooders are there to help to scam the system all paid for by the good old taxpayer. (can't post the news link) but you can find the story on bbc news site if you want. Stop the Bus I just want to get off !!! |

In Canada it's difficult to get in, but considerably easier than some places.
Although the cab driver last night had a software engineering degree from an Indian technical university. I welcome immigration, anyone who doesn't is either an ignorant fool or a Native Canadian. |

Holy goddamn the cab driver thing in my last message was the epitome of nonsensical.
I'm trying to convey something along the lines of it's harder to make a clean switch into Canada, it's hard getting degrees recognized and so forth. Once you're here, it can be difficult to get started. |
