1/17: Ice hotel
![]() This is the "Icehotel", the planet's first hotel built entirely of ice. What else would you call it? It's in Sweden, 125 miles north of the Arctic circle. The questions here are all too obvious, so I won't even ask them. But they claim they are doing tourism business, so someone is visiting and, apparently, spending money there. (Easy money recipe: $29./night stay, $249 for heater rental, $99 for mop rental.) |

How many silly puns can we run up off of this?
"Where's the fridge?" "Is the AC on?" ..... ? |

And there are several in Iceland that are built at the beginning of every winter, recieve guests, etc, etc, and then melt away as summer arrives, only to be entrely rebuilt the next year.
Makes renovations relatively cheap and easy, I guess.. heh. |

It's definitely not just you ... that was Joe's point in the second post in this thread.

I think I saw some sort of thing of the Travel channel a while ago where they visited this place. You sleep in fur beds and they have a bar where the cups are made entirely of ice.

I imagine ice cups would be awesome at keeping your drink cool, but I would think your hands would get damn cold too.
Try this: squeeze an ice cube until it melts. Yow! |

Well, it's not milk they were drinking, it was Vodka - that way they can pour you a drink that won't melt your cup.

Hmm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you pour something that is warmer than 32ºF/0ºC on some ice, it's going to at least partially melt it, correct?
Anyway, I doubt they'd be serving hot chocolate in those glasses ![]() |

That's the whole point of it being alcohol, it can be chilled below the freezing point of water and still stay liquid.
