Having to watch others in pain
This is one of the hardest things.
My oldest son has had his seasonal affective (mood, depressive) symptoms descend on him as the days shorten. He's withdrawing socially, not sleeping, struggling. He's had more than one psychotic depression in the past. He called me tonight because he'd promised, several months ago, to keep the lines of communication open. He has been suicidal before, most recently this year. I'm in the same area for the next six weeks, but what after that? Should I move to the DC area? I hate to think of being far away and unable to be there in a crisis. There are other major crises looming with my other three children. It looks like being a very rocky fall.

Sorry your son is in pain.
I have the same issue and I hate putting my parents and wife through it every year. I keep thinking it might be a good argument for making the move to a more southerly clime, even if there is otherwise a quality of life hit. But the depression started a couple of weeks ago and there will be no more clear thought on my part until Mayish. |

Long time SAD sufferer and the only thing that worked for me was 5 - 10,000 Vitamin D3 x 1 day

I even get a little bummed when it's so dark in the morning. But only in a regular "it sucks when the alarm clock goes off and it's pitch dark out" kind of way. I can only imagine how bad it would be to legitimately suffer from SAD. I'm sorry you are both dealing with it in your own way.
