Whoring for a Literary good cause

Short version: vote for Dzanc, here, please. kthxbai

long version:

I am involved with a non-profit publishing company which does far far more than just publish. It's called Dzanc.

On the publishing side, we seek out new authors in the field described as "literary fiction" -the serious stuff. We help them out of the Catch 22 created by todays marketing strategies. Big publishing companies either need an author's name to be known, or they need to be able to slot their work into one of their predefined style (marketing) categories. If they can't "put their finger on" exactly what it is that makes your work good, then they can't market it, so you're rejected. Dzanc seeks to right this wrong. among many other worthy literary aims.

On the not-quite-so-publishing-oriented side, we send writers into schools to mentor students, and we publish the students' work. Also, we award the Dzanc Prize -monetary help for an author to set up a literary community service, such as work with cancer patients, their families and caregivers.

There's a cash grant available from Chase Bank, but it's awarded on the basis of a public vote. So, if you like the sound of what we do (or don't care but love to vote online), please go onto facebook and vote for Dzanc.

Here's the official blurb about how to vote:

The voting is being done through Facebook, just click here, and all you need to do is log in and search for Dzanc Books and vote for us to help us out. If you have a Twitter account, you can pass along the news to all of your subscribers with a simple click of the mouse. Likewise, we would appreciate your contacting all your Facebook friends and asking them to vote for Dzanc.

And here's more about Dzanc. It's a 501c(3) organization, so if you like what you see and were needing to juice up the donation section of your tax return before the year expires.....

Thanks

Done. Someday I'll submit a manuscript and expect some payback for this favor.

We also actively seek out female authors who are under-represented in the genre.... go for it! Finish that darn thing and turn it in.

Softer side? Probably demanding the young stud-muffin writers, perform unspeakable acts, in exchange for assistance.

Hit link, entered Dzanc, clicked Go, nothing happened.

it is tricky to navigate because Chase seems to insist that some -but not all- people become "fans" of their charitable giving site, and that wasn't straight-forward when I tried to do it. weird. but once I figured that out, the vote thing was easy. And it said i had 20 votes, so now I'm trying to work out if i can use all 20 for the same thing...?

....darn youngsters and their complicated facebookie thingie... mutter....grumble.....

Hijacking monster's good cause... it's the final round of the Chase Community Giving project, where the top five charities will each get 1 million dollars. Sadly, monster's publishing charity didn't make it to the final round.

But the National Autism Association is currently at number 8. Please go vote and help it get to number 5.

Right, so here's the down and dirty on that......

We were winning, 48 hours to go.... then the site when down for two days, re-emerged after the close of the poll and we were nowhere near contention. WTF? All questioning emails went unanswered.

Yes, unfortunately you have to have a Facebook account to vote. Not worth the effort if you don't already have one. I honestly suspect that part of why they did that was identity verification, so people couldn't scam the online voting (or at least not as easily.)
