Bill Cosby can still bring it

J and I, along with most of her family, saw Bill Cosby this afternoon. Dude still does an hour and a half of sit-down comedy. And is still great, IMO. He goes at a slower pace, but his great timing is totally intact.

He was always great at mugging for an audience, and now he achieves that same effect just by looking up at the ceiling, or dropping his cap on a line. He still talks about family, and wives, and friends, and his stuff is just as profound and personal as ever.

Man this guy is like my hero and I'm so glad I got to see him.

Is the "huh" because you were expecting someone to bring up the rape thing?

I spent a while being torn and maybe compartmentalizing the news a bit to keep my fond memories of him being a cool guy.

But then about a week ago, Fat Albert was on, and young, cool Bill Cosby was giving some good advice to the kids, and I wanted to turn that shit off because he's such a fucking tool now. The walls between the compartments have tumbled down and he's all bad to me now. Not even good memories of the old stuff.

He sucks and everything he ever touched sucks.

This is something us Brits have been feeling about loads of our favourite childhood tv stars. It's like - was there anybody working in entertainment in the 70s who wasn't fiddling kids, or assaulting young women, ffs?

"Bill Cosby - Himself" was a comedic masterpiece.

However...

I'm afraid that our loveable Mr. Cosby is a serial rapist. I didn't want to believe it. I don't want to believe it.

One, maybe two accusers? Well, maybe they got together after Bill pissed them off, or something, and decided to drag his name through the mud...

But, what are we up to now, 20-25 accusers? You can't get 25 women to agree on what time it is, much less cabal-up and destroy a man for just any old reason.

I feel sorry for these women. I feel sorry for America, too. We've lost an entire lifetime of loving Bill Cosby, and the funny, sometimes hilarious, things he said and did. All of that is, at the very least, tainted, and, for the most of us, destroyed, by the things he, apparently, has done.

It's very sad, and very disappointing.

Guilty until proven innocent, right?

I don't want to believe it either, but consider that there is a huge faction of people who are against Bill Cosby because he stood up and told the black community to quit wearing their pants down their ass, to get jobs, to speak correctly, to raise their offspring. In these days...he is a pariah in that one particular community...a community which happens to be led by Sharptons and Jacksons.

I don't think it would be that hard for a bunch of (and by 'bunch of' I am admitting to the sheer number of young women (most now older)who wanted to succeed, and who have now brought a voice) of wannabes/hasbeens to now point a finger at a man who was admired for years. For THAT cause. I'm not blaming the victims here, I am just not sure there were victims.

I could be wrong. On one hand I hope I'm way wrong...for how could any people destroy one to make a point? On the other hand, I'm fearful some of this could have happened. But honestly? It seems really really implausible.

So until proven guilty....Hey hey hey and I brought you into this world and I can take you out and the myriad of other things the artist Bill Cosby brought to us.

As much as I love a good tin-foil hat conspiracy theory, I think Occam's Razor would find it a bit of a stretch to support your argument. To me it rings more like the bible thumping republican homophobes who rant and rail against the very things they do in private and (perhaps) feel ashamed of.

These women are not trying to revive sagging careers and are coming out knowing they are going up against a hugely popular icon at great risk to their personal reputations. Again, think of how many other equally critical comedians, aren't being accused rape. George Carlin, for one was a hundred times more critical of everything than Cosby ever was on his most vitriolic day. The Catholic church could have sent their mafia to visit him and found a bunch of altar boys who were willing to testify that Carlin fiddled with them in - oh wait. Never mind.
