Allya'll oughta see my town. I like it. Very relaxed folk, a bit of the Banana in our Republic, heavily Democratic by registrar, yet heavily Republican by voting habits. Sun shines most days, and it is reminiscent of George Clooney's line in "Oh, Brother..."... "This place is a bit of a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere". Forgive me if I didn't get it exactly right.
What do you think? |

I've heard that New Mexico is very unfriendly to business, but that they're trying to change that...would you agree?

Sycamore,
What has happened in the past is that the city makes large $ concessions to companies like Siemens, who then abandon their obligation, abandon their building, and leave the city holding. Now in the case of Siemens, they also left us toxic waste on their site, which they refused to clean up, and so... I suppose the case could be made that we're unfriendly, but our tax base and per capita income are attractive to businesses onaccounta they can ge away with paying their workers astonishingly low wages. SO you could look at it from many perspectives. |

New Mexico...
I was born in Albuquerque a long time ago. I am from the Acoma Pueblo which is about one hour west of Alb. I haven't been back there in almost 20 years but from what I remember is empty buildings and low income housing on the outskirts of town. Here is a pic of what I remember as a kid...

I was in Albuquerque last summer for 10 days. Had good mexican food, which is about the only thing I remember of the place. Wasn't anything too impressive - plus the rental car company forgot to put oil or something in our van, which consequently stalled and died in the middle of the highway one afternoon.
Just seemed like a place without much development ... lagged immensely from other remote cities I visited that summer. But then again, who am I to say much. |
