I read the D&D tract thing ....that is hysterical.... and the "reason's why you shouldn't play" essay is sooooo skewed it's unbelieveable.

And let us not forget...
From the artist's web site: "Taken down due to legal stuff. It will never appear again. No .pdf files, .jpegs or prints will be made available. Sorry folks. Cthulhu destroys all that you love!" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Jack Chick is the gold standard of religious tracts.
Clever, keeps to bible teachings, creates 'reality' as necessary. (such as 'when your character gets to be 8th level, you can really cast spells' kind of stuff ...) Many of his "the other religions are false" tracts make good reading, like Allah Had No Son and The Curse of Baphomet.

One wonders, though ... which online version of the Bible is the correct one? Of course Mr. Chick insists that it's the King James, but would a modern Jesus prefer one of the hipper, newer, improved, Mother-Father kinds of bibles, or none of them, knowing that the message is lost in the (re)telling, but gained in the living?
Heard at a pagan gathering: "Believe in the Bible? Well, at least I've seen one ... "

And just for fun, found the Extreme Teen Bible while looking for examples ... layout almost looks like "The Bible for Dummies" or "for the Complete Idiot."
I guess today's tv raised kids don't have the attention span for regular old bible reading.

I would avoid translations into simple english, or easy reading versions, as what happens there is that the translator gives you the gist of the original, but you lose double and triple meanings, subtle word play, and detail. And if you didn't catch the link someone posted around here to a great modern day rendition of the book of Revelations, go to http://www.e-sheep.com/apocamon/ Some Jewish groups make everyone learn Hebrew so that they can read their texts in the original language. Christian scholars have to learn those langauges too, or else they are forever at the mercy of the translators. |

By weird coincidence, I ran across my AD&D Player's Handbook this afternoon... must have been at least 15 years since I used it.
