Team America: World Police

Went to see this tonight in a joint Forks/Cellar outing. My only regret is that the theater wasn't anything approaching full (there were three clumps of people), atlhough we may have actually benefitted in that none of the lines were overly stepped on and made unintelligible by laughter.

Team America is, as you should know, unless you've been living under a rock somewhere, or in France, the latest cinematic wonder by the makers of South Park.

And oh what a wonder it is!

Puppet Porn aside (and there's a fair amount), Matt Stone and Trey Park go after the Hollywierd Liberal Elite with thier usual scapel-like incisive wit. It was unique, refreshing, and not at all like South Park, although Kim Jung Il does bear superficial resemblance to Eric Cartman.

There are some great running gags in the movie, and I think they managed to use every spy and war movie cliche out there.

One thing that the commercials do not let you know is that Team America is a delightful around the world musical romp. I now have to get the soundtrack so that I may ride to work with the catchy "America, Fuck yeah!" theme heralding my arrival at the lunatic asylum.

Goddamn...that movie was funny. Make sure you stay until the credits are over.

The soundtrack comes out Tuesday...I might have to go buy it.

Of course, Wolf is going to point out the liberals being snuffed out, but there was also a fair amount of poking fun at the whole "America as the world's policeman" notion.

The hilarity of the puppet bodily fluid spewing is quite extreme. I have not laughed that much in that short a period of time in a while.

I may have to check it out... I heard "America: Fuck Yeah!" and the AIDS song on Opie & Anthony.

I just about pissed myself while watching this movie.

As "easy" as it might be to put together a cartoon/animated movie, there's a certain amount of cohesion and structure to the madness that makes a movie like Team America just that brilliant. I think they call that humor writing.

The DVD just came out today. I'll buy it next week, when season 2 of Chappelle's Show comes out.
