"Laptop" a figurative term

...a growing number of men using the machines on their thighs rather than a desk. To keep the testicles at an ideal temperature — and for greater comfort — men naturally sit with their legs further apart than women. When working on a laptop, however, they will adopt a less natural position in order to balance it on their laps. And this is what produces a significant rise in body heat between their thighs.

It appears that the increased "scrotal temperatures" (yep, they said that) contributes to a decline in sperm count.

Actually I use a laptop as my sole computer, at work and at home. At work it sits in a docking unit well away from my cool zone, but at home, it does indeed sit on my lap. Luckily, I use a hardshell case (from Pelican--highly recommended) as my "table" and I can ventilate myself in the normal male way, with my knees comfortably far apart. This keeps both the temperature and the bruising down to acceptable levels.

Hey, maybe there's some kind of business opportunity here. What about rigging a fan to draw cool air in from the bottom of the laptop? In *this* case, you wouldn't want it to blow in that area, but a good strong suction may well have considerable physical benefits. Who knows?

Laptops can output 30 or 50 milligauss and hundreds of volts per meter when located at the laptop. These numbers are equivalent to those found under high tension towers or close to the dashboard of a car. Is a laptop as dangerous as those electro-magnetic fields generated by high voltage transmission lines?
